Profile
Salaam!
I’m Dr. Hanan Hashem, a Muslim psychologist based in Boston, MA. On my journey here, I earned two Master’s degrees (Counseling Psychology and Quantitative Methods) and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
I currently serve as an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psychology Department at William James College and as a Community Educator and Researcher with The Family and Youth Institute (The FYI). With years of experience in research, clinical care, and education, I'm excited to embark on new and meaningful ways to share what I’ve learned about psychology and mental health.
I am firmly dedicated to raising critical consciousness and engaging in liberation practices throughout my work by exploring the interactions of our individual and collective agencies and the systems in which we live. I also draw from indigenous psychologies and philosophies to understand our capacity to heal, resist, and love.
I have extensive experience working with gender, racial, religious, and other cultural issues; developmental and intergenerational trauma; as well as mood and thought disorders such as depression and anxiety. I also have expertise in family and relationship concerns, identity development, and life transitions.
I'm thrilled to have you here, and I look forward to connecting with you on this journey of self-interrogation and personal growth. Stay tuned for my upcoming podcast episodes, single-session therapy appointments, and psychoeducation classes. Together, we can embark on a path towards a more content and connected life.
